2003 peter pan movie crocodile2/18/2023 As Wendy, meanwhile, Beaumont is a study in elegance, both in voice and presence. Alas, his contributions were even more tragically linked to Pan's legacy later when he passed away at the age of 31, without escaping the iconography of his own childhood career but he brings the perfect notes of youthful obliviousness - if not outright selfishness - to Peter's lackadaisical lifestyle. Previously, only women played Peter on film, but the young Disney contract player was well-established as a talented actor and stalwart contributor to the company's family-oriented films. This particular production of Peter Pan is historically noteworthy for a number of reasons, starting with Driscoll's casting in the title role. But before they can settle into a life of eternal youth and frivolity - not counting Wendy's duties as matriarch and caregiver - Captain Hook (Hans Conried) sets a plan into motion to return the favor done to him years ago by Peter: namely, the young troublemaker fed his hand to a crocodile, and Hook would like to exchange his lost limb for Peter's whole body. Before long, Wendy, Michael and John are whisked away to Pan's home of Never Land (courtesy some of Tinkerbell's pixie dust). When he visits the Darling house to retrieve his errant shadow, Peter soon encounters Wendy (Kathryn Beaumont), the maternal older sister of John (Paul Collins) and Michael (Tommy Luske) her undeniable (and mostly nonsexual) attraction to Peter has made her his unofficial biographer, and he offers to take her to Never Land in exchange for her services as his personal raconteur and (unflatteringly) Mother. Longtime Disney staple Bobby Driscoll ( Song of the South, Treasure Island) plays Peter, the living embodiment of ageless youth and enthusiasm.
