Even now, there are bright stars in the intellectual expanse, engaged in persuading believers and skeptics alike that the Christian faith is in perfect harmony with the life of the mind. ![]() In turn, the secularists have done their best to portray Christianity as an outmoded, anti-intellectual belief system, and embattled believers have too often done little to counter that perception.īut God never leaves himself without witnesses. In the face of advancing secularism, Christians have largely retreated from the arena of public ideas, ceding their former position of cultural influence to the secularists. ![]() The picture has shifted, however, over the past century or so. ![]() Christians founded universities, developed modern science, spearheaded social reforms, and produced creative and cultural excellence to the glory of God. Historically, believers have taken this to heart, pursuing God’s truth in all its forms, whether theological, historical, scientific, artistic or ethical. Jesus taught his followers that loving God with all of the mind was part of the greatest commandment. ![]()

In a good Mitchum performance, we are never aware he is acting. ![]() His voice and his face and the way he lights his cigaret are all exactly right, and seem totally effortless. Mitchum is one of the great screen presences, and at 57 he seems somehow to be just now coming of age: He was born to play the weary, cynical, doggedly romantic Marlowe. He is not uneasy with it, as Robert Altman was when he had Elliot Gould flirt with seriousness in "The Long Goodbye:" Richards doesn't hedge his bet.Īnd neither does Robert Mitchum, in what becomes his definitive performance. ![]() One reason is that Dick Richards, the director, takes his material and character absolutely seriously. It is not as great as Roman Polanski's " Chinatown," which was concerned with larger subjects, but in the genre itself there hasn't been anything this good since Hollywood was doing Philip Marlowe the first time around. It is, indeed, the most evocative of all the private detective movies we have had in the last few years. ![]() Morning glory milking farm español5/29/2023 ![]() Violet is resolved to make a dent in her student loans and afford name-brand orange juice, and a one-sided crush on an out-of-her-league minotaur is not a part of her plan-unless her feelings aren’t so one-sided after all.Morning Glory Milking Farm is a short human/monster romance novel, featuring a high heat slow burn with a lot of heart, and a guaranteed HEA.
